This original compilation is a history of Catfish Blues - Rolling Stone, the tune the Rolling Stones chosed their name from. It contains 14 versions among which the most famous Muddy Waters interpretation. This Catfish that "all the pretty woman would go fishing" for is a kind of a Delta national anthem. Probably born in the early 30's in the Hill County, northern Mississippi, "Catfish blues" is a hypnotic, brooding song, played in the modal form so characteristic of this area that certainly bears strong Cherokees and Choctaws influences.
